Our wheel throwing classes are designed for beginners and developing potters who want to learn the foundations of throwing while enjoying a relaxed, supportive, and creative studio environment.
Whether you've always wanted to try pottery or are looking to build on existing skills, our term classes offer the perfect opportunity to slow down, learn something new, and experience the joy of making with clay.

What You'll Learn
Wheel throwing is a skill that combines patience, practice, and creativity. Throughout the term, you'll be guided through the fundamental techniques needed to create your own handmade ceramics.
Skills covered include:
Preparing and wedging clay
Centering clay on the wheel
Pulling walls and shaping forms
Creating cylinders and bowls
Trimming and finishing techniques
Attaching handles and decorative elements
Surface decoration
Glazing and finishing your work
Projects may include:
Cups and tumblers
Mugs with handles
Bowls and serving bowls

4-Week Wheel Throwing Class
A wonderful introduction to the pottery wheel.
This course is perfect for beginners wanting to experience the excitement of wheel throwing and learn the essential skills needed to get started.
You'll spend time learning how to centre clay, create simple forms, and understand the process from raw clay to finished ceramic piece.
Every class includes plenty of hands-on practice and guidance to help you build confidence at the wheel.
$255 per person

4 x 2-hour studio sessions
Clay, glazes, and firing
Use of pottery wheels and studio equipment
Demonstrations and personalised instruction
5kgs of clay to use
3 × 2 hour unsupervised practice sessions to use outside of class time (by prior arrangement)

8-Week Wheel Throwing Class
A deeper journey into the art of wheel throwing.
With eight weeks to practice and develop your skills, you'll have the opportunity to move beyond the basics and gain a stronger understanding of form, technique, and craftsmanship.
You'll refine your throwing skills, learn trimming and finishing techniques, and explore creating a wider range of functional pottery.
This course allows time for repetition, experimentation, and growth—helping you build confidence and consistency at the wheel.
$550 per person

Extra Details
Missed a class? No problem! You’re welcome to make it up on another scheduled term date or enjoy two hours of studio access at a time that suits you.
Term classes include a complimentary studio induction (valued at $35), allowing you to access the studio outside of class time if you wish to become a studio member.
Please remember to have short nails and hair tied back.

Hand Building Term Class
Whether you're picking up clay for the very first time or looking to grow your creative practice, our hand building term classes are designed to help you build confidence, learn traditional techniques, and create beautiful handmade ceramics in a welcoming studio environment.
Working at your own pace with guidance from an experienced instructor, you'll explore a range of hand-building methods while creating functional and sculptural pieces you'll be proud to take home.

Studio Access
Studio access sessions give you extra time outside of class to continue projects, practice techniques, and enjoy creating in a relaxed studio environment. These sessions are supervised and can be booked throughout your term.

If you miss a class, you're welcome to make it up during the following term (subject to availability) or book one of your included 2-hour studio access sessions with prior arrangement.
What to Bring
We provide everything you need to get started, including clay, tools, glazes and firing.
We recommend:
Wearing comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a little messy.
Bringing a towel or apron if you prefer (we also have aprons available).
Keeping your fingernails short, as this makes working with clay much easier and more enjoyable.
